EBERLY ANNOUNCES OPENING OF CEDAR TAVERN BAR
New York’s Historic Cedar Tavern Bar Comes to Life at Eberly on South Lamar
AUSTIN, Texas (Oct 3, 2016) -- Ten years after the historic Cedar Tavern of Greenwich Village famously closed its doors, the legendary establishment’s 150-year-old hand carved mahogany bar has found a new home in Austin, Texas. Once a hangout for the likes of Jack Kerouac, Bob Dylan and Jackson Pollock, the Cedar Tavern bar comes to life at Eberly, a thoughtful collection of dining, drinking and thinking spaces on South Lamar, Monday, October 3.
Considered a living piece of history and a true work of art, the bar was carefully taken apart and relocated by fine art movers to Austin. Disassembled into literally hundreds of pieces, the bar was preserved in a climate-controlled warehouse for ten years and recently brought out of storage to begin its new life in Austin. The Eberly team worked meticulously to reassemble and refurbish the bar, including the original stained glass pieces from the bar that were strengthened and restored by the original supplier, Kokomo Opalescent Glass, in Kokomo, Indiana.
“We are thrilled to finally have a new home for the Cedar Tavern bar worthy of its rich history and beauty,” said Eddy Patterson, co-founder of Eberly. “The bar is legendary and holds a special place in the hearts and minds of the people of New York, especially the art historians and artist community, and we can’t wait to share it with the great people of Austin.”
The Cedar Tavern cocktail program is lead by Kelon Bryant, who was a key member of The Continental Club staff for 10 years and most recently served as the head bartender of Justine’s Brasserie. Staying true to its history, the Cedar Tavern offers classic cocktails and locally crafted beers.
Helmed by Executive Chef Jim Tripi and Executive Pastry Chef Natalie Gazaui, the Cedar Tavern will offer a full menu of classic American tavern food, including fresh fish and chips, a world class burger on house made bun with duck fat french fries, charcuterie and cheese board, raw oysters and caviar as well as a beef short rib and Scottish eggs.
In the coming weeks, Eberly will open in its entirety, including a beautiful dining room featuring contemporary American cuisine as well as a welcoming study, the Cedar Tavern and a rooftop terrace overlooking downtown. Everything served out of Eberly’s artisan kitchen and bakery will be made from scratch using bold flavors and perfectly executed preparation with an emphasis on freshness, seasonality and local availability, Eberly will serve the highest quality fare.
The Cedar Tavern is open from 5 p.m. seven days a week. Eberly is located at 615 South Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78704. For more information on Eberly, please visit eberlyaustin.com or call 512-916-9000. Follow on Facebook at @EberlyATX and on Instagram @EberlyATX.
